Susanne Suffredin is an editor and independent filmmaker whose 40 + year career spans non-fiction, scripted and commercial genres with a keen emphasis on long form documentaries. Her work has screened at major festivals including Sundance, Chicago International and the San Francisco International among others. As an associate of Kartemquin Films, Susanne was post-production supervisor of the ground breaking documentary “Hoop Dreams” among her many credits with the famed production house. Her association with the award-winning Kindling Group includes directing and editing the feature documentary @home,” named 2014 Booklist Magazine Editors Choice, Winner Best Documentary Los Angeles Diversity Film Festival, an Official Selection of the Eugene International Film Festival and the Human Rights Film Festival, screened nationally on PBS (2015) and internationally (2016). Prior work includes the landmark series “The Calling” which she co-produced and edited for PBS’s Independent Lens. She also edited the MacArthur funded “Count Me In” for broadcast on PBS. She was co-editor of the award-winning web series “Other People’s Children” and most recently directed, produced, edited and wrote the comedy short “Art Guard” for her company Aberdeen Pictures with Co-Founder Rich Moskal. She is the editor of “The Lagoon”, a DePaul Project Bluelight film directed by Brian Andrews. She was named one of Chicago Film’s 50 Screen Gems by Newcity Magazine in 2017. In June 2025, she retired from DePaul University’s School of Cinematic Arts where she was a Senior Professional Lecturer and Co-Chair of the Documentary Program. She is currently an adjunct at DePaul in documentary production and post production.
